WO Larsen Super Sandblasted Bent Egg Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
WO Larsen was a tobacconist in Copenhagen Denmark. In the 1960s, when Danish-style pipes were becoming highly sought after, thanks to revolutionary pipe-makers such as Sixten Ivarsson, a workshop was set up on the Larsen premises to produce enough high-grade Danish pipes to meet demand. This workshop was staffed by the emerging masters of Danish pipe-making, such as Sven and Teddy Knudsen, Hans ‘Former’ Nielsen, Jess Chonowitsch, Poul Ilsted, and Benni Jorgensen.
While dating W.O. Larsen pipes exactly is difficult, this one appears to be from the 1960s, as evinced by the ‘Larsen’ nomenclature, which was swapped in later decades for ‘W.O. Larsen’. The 1960s saw Sven Knudsen at the helm of the iconic workshop with many of his designs being produced there for the make’s exponentially increasing customer base.
The shape of this one certainly reminds me of Sven Knudsen’s work. The tall bowl paired with the incredibly smooth, quarter-bend in its shank and stem reminds me of the elder Knudsen’s ‘Swan’ shapes. What I especially like about this one is that it features beautiful, ring grain sandblasting around the bowl, which older Larsen pipes are less known for.
The condition is great. I don’t see anything that needs pointing out, but please consult the pictures and judge for yourself before purchasing.
