Description

WO Larsen was a tobacconist in Copenhagen Denmark. In the 1960s, when Danish-style pipes were becoming highly sought after, thanks to revolutionary pipe-makers such as Sixten Ivarsson, a workshop was set up on the Larsen premises to produce enough high-grade Danish pipes to meet demand. This workshop was staffed by the emerging masters of Danish pipe-making, such as Sven and Teddy Knudsen, Hans ‘Former’ Nielsen, Jess Chonowitsch, Poul Ilsted, and Benni Jorgensen.

This pipe is a relatively traditional design from the great Copenhagen workshop, though of course its artisans have put their own, Danish spin on it. I’d call it a compact, lightweight, bent pot shape, with some affinities with the early French renditions, with the addition an oval shank and stem that follow a lovely, sweeping curvature. It’s a very graceful piece, which is only furthered but the mass of bird’s-eye patterns across its flanks. I imagine that contributed to it attaining a Super grade.

The condition is very good. Some inner rim darkening and slightly faded stamping, though still wholly legible.
