WO Larsen Sandblasted Straight Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

WO Larsen was a tobacconist in Copenhagen Denmark. In the 1960s, when Danish-style pipes were becoming highly sought after, thanks to revolutionary pipe-makers such as Sixten Ivarsson, a workshop was set up on the Larsen premises to produce enough high-grade Danish pipes to meet demand. This workshop was staffed by the emerging masters of Danish pipe-making, such as Sven and Teddy Knudsen, Hans ‘Former’ Nielsen, Jess Chonowitsch, Poul Ilsted, and Benni Jorgensen.

Judging by the nomenclature, this Larsen pipe was made during the 1970s, when Former was supervisor at the historic workshop. It’s quite remarkable, then, that this pipe is completely unsmoked, and that it’s made the journey across the last five decades with its original sock in tow.

It’s a lovely pipe, too. The design is quite conservative by the Larsen workshop’s standards, being a dark, sandblasted Lovat of sorts. It does have some distinct properties, though, such as its rectangular shank, tall, brandy-like bowl, and unconventionally proportioned, ebonite stem. The composition is subtle, but nonetheless Danish.
