Description

Willmer was brand established by Dennis Marshall in London, England. Marshall had previously worked for Barling in the 1950s, later going on to run production at Charatan until the latter was sold to Dunhill. While at Charatan, Marshall worked with other notable British pipe-makers such as Barry Jones and Ken Barnes (later of James Upshall) and Stan Haley (later of Ashby Hall). Willmer continued until the mid-2000s, whereupon over five decades of Marshall’s pipe-making excellence sadly ended.

Sometimes I get the feeling that you can take the carver out of Charatan, but you can’t take Charatan out of the carver. Something of the Great British make always seems to carry on through the later works of its former pipe-makers. The shaping of this Dublin, for example, makes it almost a dead ringer for Charatan’s shape 91, albeit a slightly large one, and without the Double Comfort stem typical for the Lane years.

The condition is great. There’s some darkening and light finish fading on the rim, and one small spot of char at the very lip of the chamber.
