Wild Honey by Sasieni Smooth Rhodesian Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates

Description

I’ve read conflicting reports as to who made Wild Honey pipes, and even Wilczak & Colwell’s Who Made That Pipe? list two answers: Sasieni, and the Wild Honey Tobacco Company. Given that the latter is ancient, and that companies are far less documented than pipe makes, I thought this one would remain a mystery. Except the shape is a little familiar. If you glance through the old, main-brand Sasieni catalogs, you won’t find this one. But, if you look at the Litewate, a Sasieni sub-brand dedicated to smaller, featherweight pieces, you’ll find a dead ringer in its shape 86 (or, possibly 86a; see Steve Laug’s restoration of a Litewate 86 for a good example). Perhaps that’s this mystery solved? If it is, that would make this a family-era Sasieni too, which certainly bumps it up in the ranks of collectability.

The condition is very good. Minor inner rim darkening, and a very small, superficial nick on the left side of the outer end of the shank. Nothing major, though,
