Viggo Nielsen Smooth Freehand Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates
Out of stock
Description
Viggo Nielsen was one of the pioneers of the Danish style in pipe-making, founding the Bari pipe company in 1948. While at Bari, Viggo, his sons Jørgen Nielsen and Kai Nielsen, and budding carvers such as Age Bogelund Åge Bogelund and Helmer Thomsen, created pipes that would help set the standard for Danish design. After leaving Bari in 1978, Viggo created pipes under his own name, as well as under the Faaborg name with his sons Jørgen and Kai.
You don’t see many pipes from Viggo Nielsen under his own name. There are Bari pipes, and there are Faaborg pipes (Viggo, Jørgen, and Kai), which are less common than Baris, and then there are Viggo pipes, which are even less common than Faaborgs. This one is a highly organic composition, perfectly capturing the natural feel of the briar from which it was made.
The condition is great. Minor inner rim darkening.
