Vauen Inter Style 443 Partially Rusticated Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
Vauen’s Inter Style line has undergone a number of changes over the years, with this one being out of production now. However, to me, this seems like the most fitting version. After all, it certainly does blend styles – not only by mixing a smooth top section with a micro-rustication for the bottom, but by playing with shaping conventions, too. The pipe is sort of a pot, but is also something of a scoop in the Danish mold. Finally, it has a curious, beveled rim, something not seen much on pipes these days, but which was more common on traditional billiards and Bings in the mid-20th centry. On a side note, this Vauen has the company’s white dot, or weißer Punkt, on its stem (not to be confused with Dunhill’s White Spot), used to denote Vauen’s high end lines.
This Vauen is completely unsmoked, with a factory-original bowl coating to help ease in its first smokes. It also comes with its original box and sleeve. As with most Vauen pipes, it is chambered for 9mm filters, such as Vauen’s own or Savinelli’s balsa filters. It should also accommodate some variety of adapter for non-filter use, if the user prefers.
