Vauen De Luxe 286 Smooth Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, P-lip Unsmoked, 9mm

Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
Vauen’s De Luxe series may be thought of as the make’s interpretation of the classic English “dress” pipe. Much like Dunhill’s Dress series, Vauen’s De Luxe pipes feature a dark brown, near-black, smooth polished finish, a black stem, and an ornate silver collar. Unlike Dunhill’s pipes, however, the De Luxe series is chambered for 9mm filters, has a low-maintenance acrylic stem and, just in this case, can feature P-lip style stems. Much like Savinelli and WDC, Vauen experimented in the 20th century with stems that operated in a similar manner to the P-lip, with the slot at the end of the stem being angled upwards, rather than horizontally. Like the P-lip, this means that smoke is directed at the top of the user’s mouth and not straight at the tongue, reducing the ‘bite’ that some blends cause.
This De Luxe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It also comes with its original box and sleeve. As stated, the pipe is chambered for 9mm filters as standard, but would likely accommodate an adapter of some variety if its owner prefers non-filtered use.
