Vauen by Barontini 64, Smooth Straight Brandy Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm

Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
While Vauen is the most successful of Germany’s pipe-making companies, it has at times collaborated with pipe-makers from other countries to incorporate new ideas and styles into its catalog. This Vauen, for example, is one instance of a longstanding collaboration between the German make and Italy’s Caesare Barontini. The result is an interesting synthesis of German and Italian design philosophies; it is stout and sturdy in the German tradition, and is chambered to accommodate 9mm filters as most German pipes are, but it also features a uniquely patterned stem with briar inserts, in addition to wearing a strawberry-blonde stain more commonly used in Italian workshops. This allows the grain – a good mix of straight grain and bird’s-eye – to shine through, while also adding some extra flair to the overall composition.
The pipe is completely unsmoked, with a factory-original bowl coating to help ease in its first smokes. It also comes with its original box and sleeve. The pipe is chambered for 9mm filters, but its design should accommodate adapters for non-filter smoking, should the buyer prefer smoking without them.
