Vauen 5201 Sandblasted Bent Dublin Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm
Out of stock
Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
I like this Vauen. It’s a little more compact and more subtle in its design than is typical for the make. While I love Vauen’s usual shapes, sometimes a reserved, traditional approach is refreshing, especially if you’re looking for a pipe that can take 9mm filters. This one is a quarter-bent Dublin with a slight Rhodesian feel due to its beveled rim, but I wouldn’t count that as particularly unconventional. Another thing I really like about this Vauen is its sandblast – this one has genuine ring grain blasting, which is just excellent.
The pipe also happens to be completely unsmoked, with a factory-original bowl coating. It also comes with its original box and sleeve. As stated, it is chambered for 9mm filters, such as Vauen’s Dr Perl filters, as standard, but it would also likely accommodate an adapter if the other prefers it without.
