Vauen 3986 Smooth Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm
Out of stock
Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
We’ve had a few of these NOS (new old stock) Vauens come in recently, and it’s been interesting to see how the designs have changed over the years. This looks to be an older model, with a marked preference for traditional shapes like the humble billiard (albeit slightly more stout to accommodate German tastes). This one has plenty of enjoyable flame grain swirling around its bowl, a tortoiseshell acrylic stem lending it an old-world charm, and a tasteful silver collar to tie the design together.
This Vauen is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It is chambered for 9mm filters as standard, but should accommodate an adapter of some variety if you prefer smoking without one.
