Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
While Vauen today is known for its unorthodox and experimental designs and finishes, the make does produce traditionally-inclined pipes, and did so especially in past decades. This Vauen is a very traditional brandy, with the only notable difference between it and other English or French brandies being its slightly stouter build, in part to accommodate 9mm filters. The grain is a little more front-and-center on this model, too, with its bowl positively swimming in bird’s-eye.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original (though slightly flaked) bowl coating. It also comes with its original sleeve. The pipe is chambered to accommodate 9mm filters, such as Vauen’s own, but should also accommodate an adapter of some variety if non-filtered use is preferred.
