Unsmoked Preben Holm Wengholt Rusticated Stack Billiard Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Description
Wengholt pipes were made in the workshop of Preben Holm. Though he would tragically pass away at the age of 42, Holm was one of the pioneering figures in the ‘Danish design’ movement in 20th century pipe-making, a movement that still dominates the high-grade pipe scene. By hand-shaping his pipes on a belt sander, Holm was able to make the most of the patterns of grain hidden within briar, creating spectacular works of pipe art that looked just as well as they smoked. Owing to Holm’s untimely passing, his pipes are even more highly sought after than they were during his lifetime.
Here’s something interesting: an unsmoked pipe from Preben Holm’s Wengholt make. But that’s not the only thing interesting about it. It also has a curious addition to the nomenclature, that being the additional stamping of ‘BY PREBEN HOLM’ on the side of the shank. I’ve seen a fair few Preben Holm pipes from each of the various makes that he produced alongside Preben Holm itself, but I’ve not seen that before. I’m not sure what it means, but it’s a nice addition.
The pipe itself is one of those rare examples of a rusticated Preben Holm offering. It’s an interesting synthesis of different design ideas; on the one hand, it’s rugged and very large, being nearly seven and a half inches long and boasting a very tall bowl; on the other hand, the bowl and shank are rather slender. It all comes together to create something that looks like a cross between a Pipe Dan and a Caminetto.
As mentioned, the pipe is completely unsmoked. It even still has the price tag from a past life, so many decades ago.
