Description
The Owl Shop was a historic American tobacconist in New Haven, Connecticut. For over six decades, the shop was owned and operated by the Photakis family, selling pipes made by established English and Italian companies, as well as the pipes of George Photakis in the later 20th century.
I had heard that Sasieni made pipes for The Owl Shop for a time, and when this one landed on my desk, I had a sneaking suspicion that’s where it had originally come from. The proportions look to be a close match for Sasieni’s shape 44 Amesbury Canadian, while the finish is a dead ringer for the rustication used on Sasieni’s Old England pipes.
The condition is very good. Minor rim darkening and a chamber that may be slightly over-reamed.
