Stanwell Vario 25 Sandblasted Scoop Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates
Out of stock
Description
Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.
The shape “25” seen here was the third and last Stanwell design to receive that shape number, appearing around the mid-1970s and disappearing altogether a few decades later. Originally created by long-time Stanwell collaborated Sixten Ivarsson, it’s a charming little scoop shape and, in my personal experience, an ideal jaw hanger. This one, which looks to be late 1990s/early 2000s, is from Stanwell’s mixed-finish Vario line. It will have been made in the Borup factory in Denmark, before production was moved overseas in 2010.
The condition is fair. Rim darkening and some finish fading.
