Stanwell Sandblasted Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates

Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.

Though Stanwell has long been known for its unorthodox, distinctly Danish designs, its origins reside in classic Anglo-French shapes, which have held their place in its catalog since the 1950s. This particular Stanwell is a very traditional, lightweight saddle billiard, with a ring grain sandblast and a reserved, near-black stain. Judging by the acrylic stem and “Made in Denmark” stamping, this should be a 1998-2009 make. The condition is fair. Rim darkening and minor finish fading.
