Stanwell La Reine Smooth Army Mount Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates

Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.

Likely made for a pipe shop or event in Canada’s La Reine region, this particular Stanwell is a classic and lightweight army mount billiard. The flame grain patterns are particularly excellent on this one, though I’ve found that the pipes Stanwell made to be sold by brick and mortar retailers tend to be very nice pipes—I have a Stanwell made for Peter Heinrichs in Germany that is a similarly beautiful specimen.

The condition is good. Some darkening and wear to the rim.
