Stanwell Golden Danish 51 Sandblasted Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates
Out of stock
Description
Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.
The Golden Danish was Stanwell’s flagship sandblast finish in the early 2010s, though as far as I’m aware, it is no longer in production. True to its name, it was, as can be seen here, a warm light brown blast, one which worked just as well with the company’s signature shapes as it did with their more traditional pieces.
The condition is great. Lightly smoked. In a previous listing of another Golden Danish I had wondered if the smooth polished rim was original, or the result of topping. This one would confirm that the smooth rim was in fact standard design. Nice, touch, if you ask me.
