Description
Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.
The Golden Danish was Stanwell’s flagship sandblast finish in the early 2010s, though as far as I’m aware, it is no longer in production. True to its name, it was, as can be seen here, a warm light brown blast, one which worked well with the company’s signature shapes. This one is a very lightweight billiard, which should make it an ideal clencher.
The condition is very good. It is possible that the rim has been topped and re-finished, as I don’t recall the Golden Danish having smooth rims, but there may well have been versions like that. I’ve adjusted the price, just to be sure.
