Stanwell 75 Sandblasted Pear Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates
Out of stock
Description
Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.
While well known for his pioneering Peewit, Oliphant, and Ukulele shapes, Sixten Ivarsson was something of a functionalist at heart, and was similarly a great admirer of more traditional pipe designs. This can be seen in the recurring motif of the “pear” shape in his output, especially in the numerous variations he created for Stanwell. This one, the 75, combines the pear’s signature bowl and oval shank with a gentle, Zulu-like curvature, making for a very elegant piece of briar.
The condition is fair. Rim darkening and a couple of spots of char on the rim, and some finish fading.
