Stanwell 139, Smooth Bent Egg Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates [SOLD OUT]

Description
Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.
This Stanwell happens to have been designed by the great Jess Chonowitsch, one of Denmark’s living legends in the world of pipes. It’s a quarter-bent egg – a quintessentially Danish shape – that feels especially good in the hand. It’s also very lightweight, at a mere 40 grams, meaning it should clench fairly easily. The grain is nice too, with plenty of chatoyant bird’s-eye all over the bowl.
The condition is good. There is a little rim darkening, but it is superficial, and won’t impact the pipe’s smoking qualities.
