Ser Jacopo Rowlette Wax Drip Canadian Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
Ser Jacopo is one of the most famous contemporary examples of high-grade, workshop-made Italian pipes. It also belongs to a very special tradition in Italian pipe-making, having been established by Giancarlo Guidi and Bruno Sordini after the two had left another great Italian workshop, Mastro de Paja. Together, Guidi and Sordini created a brand of pipes that reflected their Renaissance sensibilities – even the figurehead of Ser Jacopo happens to be taken from a painting of a nobleman from centuries past – one that would soon become esteemed for creating unique and beautiful tobacco pipes that smoked just as well as they looked.
The Rowlette is Ser Jacopo’s rendition of what has become a distinctly Italian tradition in pipe-making: the “wax drip” finish. Like Castello’s Epoca, or Caminetto’s New Dear, The Rowlette is hand-carved into the briar to emulate the look of a candle that has been burning for a long time. It is quite fitting for a pipe to wear such a finish, but it certainly isn’t easy to produce, making such pipes quite uncommon (Castello, for example, stopped producing Epoca finishes in the 1960s). This Ser Jacopo rendition takes the form of a short and very lightweight Canadian, making it eminently portable and a great looking, easy clencher.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original sleeve.
