Ser Jacopo Imago L1 B Smooth Panel Dublin Estate Briar Pipe Unsmoked

Description
Ser Jacopo is one of the most famous contemporary examples of high-grade, workshop-made Italian pipes. It also belongs to a very special tradition in Italian pipe-making, having been established by Giancarlo Guidi and Bruno Sordini after the two had left another great Italian workshop, Mastro de Paja. Together, Guidi and Sordini created a brand of pipes that reflected their Renaissance sensibilities – even the figurehead of Ser Jacopo happens to be taken from a painting of a nobleman from centuries past – one that would soon become esteemed for creating unique and beautiful tobacco pipes that smoked just as well as they looked.
As I’ve said in previous listings, the names of Ser Jacopo’s various pipe series come from Latin, owing to the make’s Renaissance influences. In this instance, “Imago” refers to the sterling silver mounting seen on this very beautiful, flame grain calabash. More specifically, it refers to the fact that there is not one, but two separate, silver mounts—one on the end of the shank, the other on the base of the stem—of essentially the same design, creating an enjoyable doubling effect. In other words, each is the likeness, or image of the other. This particular Ser Jacopo is a particularly impressive specimen and a worthy candidate for the Imago mount, taking the form of a broad, trumpeting panel Dublin with flame grain circling its bowl and bird’s-eye all across its octagonal rim.
This pipe is completely unsmoked and comes with its original sleeve.
