SederCraft by Kraig Seder Smooth Yachtsman Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates
Out of stock
Description
SederCraft pipes are made by Kraig Sederquist, an American artisan based in California. While Sederquist’s pipes vary in shaping and style, his pipes are predominantly freehand, following an ethos of letting the materials used (such as briar) decide what they will be, based on their natural affordances.
I’ve been a fan of Kraig Sederquist’s work for a while now. While he doesn’t make many pipes per year (with those he does selling out quicker than a heartbeat), the ones that he does make are beautifully designed, with most showing a clear Danish influence without ever being derivative. This one is a little more traditionally inclined, closely following the figure of the Zulu’s lesser known, straight-shanked cousin, the yachtsman. More typical of Sederquist’s proclivities is the bowl’s excellent flame use of grainm whose light, brown stain is well complemented by a cumberland ebonite stem.
The condition is good. Some rim darkening and a couple of small, superficial nicks on the bowl.
