SederCraft by Kraig Sederquist 2023 Smooth Bent Pot Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates

Description
SederCraft pipes are made by Kraig Sederquist, an American artisan based in California. While Sederquist’s pipes vary in shaping and style, his pipes are predominantly freehand, following an ethos of letting the materials used (such as briar) decide what they will be, based on their natural affordances.
I’ve been a fan of Kraig Sederquist’s work for a while now. While he doesn’t make many pipes per year (with those he does selling out quicker than a heartbeat), the ones that he does make are beautifully designed, with most showing a clear Danish influence without ever being derivative. This rather chubby bent pot is a great example of that. Close to a nosewarmer in length, it shows off an immaculate attention to the natural, flame grain patterns of the briar used, which are only accentuated further by the golden contrast stain it wears. The design is modest, yet while being distinct enough from traditional shapes to keep things interesting. If you’re familiar with Sederquist’s work, you’ll know that he prefers to make pipes that he himself would enjoy smoking. Given that Sederquist spends much of his spare time on walks and hikes in the wilderness, it’s not difficult to see why the proportions of this one make it so eminently portable.
The condition is great. Some minor residual oxidation on the stem.
