Sean Reum Sandblasted Dublin w/ Ivorite Stem Handmade Briar Pipe, New

Description
Over the last decade, Sean Reum has emerged as one of North America’s most admired and in-demand pipe-makers, with his fans including, among many others, the one and only G.L. Pease. Having followed Reum’s career for many years, including catching a few glimpses of the artisan in his Montana workshop, I’m happy to say that his status in the pipe world is well-earned. A master carver of hand made pipes in the Scandinavian tradition, Reum has managed to secure a niche in the highly competitive artisan market through a combination of innovative designs and production techniques, a consistent, high quality output, and an almost unparalleled work ethic.
The “dress” pipe is a motif that has endured within pipe design for a long time—far longer than the Dunhill line of the same name, for instance. Like the Dunhill line, however, “dress” pipes are typically characterized by a two-tone color scheme of either black and white, or black and silver, evoking the formal attire one might wear for special occasions. But the “dress” motif has also come to transcend the Anglo-French tradition, with even the most “Danish” of Danish pipe makers, such as Nording and Bari, coming out with their own dress lines in the late 20th century. Innovations in pipe making materials, as well as cultural shifts in the aesthetic preferences of pipe smokers, have allowed the dress motif to carry over into the 21st century in ever more unique guises, which brings us to this beautiful Dublin from Sean Reum. Wearing an obsidian stain over a very crisp, ring grain sandblast, the finish on the bowl is wonderfully offset by an imitation ivory (Ivorite) stem.
