Sean Reum Pipes, Smooth Bent Apple Briar Pipe, New [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Over the last decade, Sean Reum has emerged as one of North America’s most admired and in-demand pipe-makers, with his fans including, among many others, the one and only G.L. Pease. Having followed Reum’s career for many years, including catching a few glimpses of the artisan in his Montana workshop, I’m happy to say that his status in the pipe world is well-earned. A master carver of hand made pipes in the Scandinavian tradition, Reum has managed to secure a niche in the highly competitive artisan market through a combination of innovative designs and production techniques, a consistent, high quality output, and an almost unparalleled work ethic.
At first glance I thought this pipe was a little more conservative than I’m used to seeing from Reum. I thought it might be a simple bent apple. But when I got around to looking at it properly, I realized that it’s much more unique than I first gave it credit. For one, it’s not really a bent apple. The bowl is more squat, and the bend is smoother and less pronounced. The shank is also not round, but oval, with a distinctly-shaped, green ebonite saddle stem. It’s very Danish, almost like something S. Bang would have designed if they’d experimented a little more color-wise.
The pipe is remarkably light and portable, and will clench with absolute ease. While it’s a somewhat smaller pipe, there’s still plenty of bowl capacity for a substantial smoke, especially with a flake or a mixture cut.
