Description

Over the last decade, Sean Reum has emerged as one of North America’s most admired and in-demand pipe-makers, with his fans including, among many others, the one and only G.L. Pease. Having followed Reum’s career for many years, including catching a few glimpses of the artisan in his Montana workshop, I’m happy to say that his status in the pipe world is well-earned. A master carver of hand made pipes in the Scandinavian tradition, Reum has managed to secure a niche in the highly competitive artisan market through a combination of innovative designs and production techniques, a consistent, high quality output, and an almost unparalleled work ethic.

Well, this is a blast from the past, if you’ll excuse the pun. If you’ve followed Sean Reum’s career, as I have, you’ll know that he’s always working on novel finishes for his pipes. These include the “Eggshell” sandblast found on many of his pipes a few years ago, his “Chipblast” rustication. Though less prominent in his output these days, the Chipblast was a fine, granular hand rustication—not unlike those of Italian pipes—combined with a contrast stain that added even more depth to the pipe’s appearance. This one is a relatively traditional apple shape, with a slight Danish edge to it, in part due to the pipe’s flared ebonite stem.

The condition is very good. Some wear to the rim.
