Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
My British friends tell me that Sherwood Forest is an ancient forest in England, which is also where the folk hero Robin Hood had his camp, so I’m quite curious as to why Savinelli put out a series of pipes seemingly named after there. They’re nice pipes, in any case. I can think of only one other series from Savinelli that uses spot carving, that being the Tobacco Grain, and both the Sherwood and TG have been discontinued for a long time. The grain on this Sherwood Liverpool is beautiful, too – bird’s-eye patterns galore – and it has something most Savinelli pipes these days don’t feature – a vulcanite stem.
The condition is great.
