Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
The Roma is a classic series from Savinelli, but over the years it’s one that has changed in some significant ways. This iteration of the Roma, for example, has a jet black vulcanite stem – something rarely used on Savinelli pipes these days, aside from their highest grade offerings. This looks to be a slightly older rendition, with a lighter stain than today’s deep burgundy.
The condition is fair. Some general finish fading, though the rim is remarkably clean and smooth. What I’m not sure about is the stem. I’d expect it to have a bit more of a bend to it for a 606 KS shape. It is possible it is a replacement, so I’ve adjusted the price to reflect that. On the other hand, it does give this Savinelli something of a Pipe Dan Shape Reformed look and feel, which I’m personally very partial to.
On a last note, the pipe is chambered to accommodate 6mm filters, such as Savinelli’s own balsa filters, but will perform perfectly well without one.
