Savinelli Rolex Smooth Pocket Vest Pipe, Unsmoked [SOLD OUT]

Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

This is an interesting pipe indeed! And it has a no less interesting story behind it. Like the opera, the vest-pocket shape is eminently 20th century, a result of innovations in pipe-making aimed at improving the functional properties of pipes for those needing to use them on the go. Before the Milan Savinelli factory opened in 1948, the Rolex was one of the first designs produced by Achille Savinelli Jr and Enea Buzzi in their Varese workshop. Achille Jr and Enea later parted ways, with the former founding the Milan Savinelli factory and the latter remaining in Varese to found Brebbia. Both Savinelli and Brebbia continued to make vest-pocket pipes for several years, with Savinelli’s first being marketed as the Roley, then later as the sub-brand Rolex, and Brebbia’s simply being called the Brebbia Rolex. This one is Savinelli’s.

The pipe is completely unsmoked, with its original bowl coating to help ease in its first smokes.
