Savinelli Punto Oro Corallo 130 KS Rusticated Stack Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates
Out of stock
Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
There are few pipes in Savinelli’s catalog – old and new – that are as sought after as the Punto Oro in the Corallo di Mare finish. It might best be compared to Dunhill’s Tanshell line; both employ a virgin briar finish with very minimal staining, which over time, much like a meerschaum pipe, develops a bronze patina; both are rare, though the Punto Oro Corallo is rarer, being a subset of the Punto Oro line, rather than a line unto itself; and both often have pipe-smokers jumping over each other to get one. While the Tanshell is sandblasted, however, the Punto Oro Corallo is rusticated in the manner of sea coral, as the name suggests. This Punto Oro Corallo has the added distinction of being rendered in Savinelli’s “130KS” stack (or chimney) shape, making it even rarer as far as Savinelli pipes go. This is because, while the 130KS was a fixture in the make’s shape chart several decades ago, it is no longer produced for any of Savinelli’s standard lines. In fact, the only line in which it has been recently used is the Antica, which used a limited stock of old stummels from Savinelli’s Milan campus.
The condition is very good. Some wear to the rim.
