Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously produced high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
2024 marked the 700th anniversary of the great Venetian explorer Marco Polo’s death. As a company that likes to lean into their national heritage, Savinelli commemorated this occasion with a special, limited edition run of pipes named in his honor. The design is reserved, being a near-black stain dressing Savinelli’s house rustication style, but it also hides a small secret: a red acrylic band, gesturing toward Marco Polo’s commonly depicted red cap. Only 700 Marco Polo pipes were made, with this one bearing the serial number 615.
The condition is great. There’s a little rim darkening, but it is not especially noticeable given the pipe’s dark stain. As with most modern Savinelli pipes, this one is chambered for 6mm filters as standard (such as Savinelli’s own balsa filters), but will smoke just as well without one.
