Savinelli for Pipes Ltd Rusticated Bent Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
When this pipe first landed on my desk, I thought it might be from the Miele line, one of my favorites from recent years. I was quite surprised to discover that it was not from the Miele line, however, but something quite a bit older. It looks as though this pipe was made as a sort “house brand” pipe—such as, for example, the Astleys pipes made by various British manufacturers—for Pipes Ltd, a tobacconist in Hickory, North Carolina. The design is very classical, with a reserved brown stain and an amber-line Lucite stem.
The condition is fair. Some darkening and wear to the rim, and a little bit of finish fading. As is typical of Savinelli models, the pipe is chambered to accommodate 6mm filters if the next owner prefers, but will perform perfectly well without one.
