Savinelli Fantasia 409 Dublin Estate Briar Pipe, 6mm, Italian Estates

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

The “407” is Savinelli’s interpretation of the traditional Dublin shape, and is probably one of the most faithful interpretations of such a shape in Savinelli’s catalog. But, being a Savinelli, the overall is not entirely traditional. Instead, the shape is rendered in one of Savinelli’s more colorful series of late, the Fantasia. While the stummel is dressed in a relatively modest, brown tree-bark rustication, the stem is a shimmering cobalt and sienna Lucite.

The condition is good. There’s some noticeable darkening on the back rim of the bowl, and some very minor tooth chatter. As with most Savinelli pipes, this one is chambered for 6mm filters as standard, such as Savinelli’s own balsa filters, but it will smoke just as well without one.
