Savinelli Autograph 6 Smooth Bent Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

Out of stock

Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

Like the Charatan freehand workshop in mid-20th century England, or Tsuge’s Ikebana workshop in late-20th century and 21st century Japan, Savinelli has its own, special area of the company’s campus reserved for master artisans, where non-standard pipe shapes are carved using artisan techniques. This particular Autograph is a very respectable grade 6, with a figure that I’m tempted to call one of Savinelli’s signature shapes. It’s a freehand, so it’s a unique design not based on any particular chart, but if you’re familiar with the old Savinelli models (here I’m thinking of pipes like the Nonpareil 9101), it does have the slightly hawkbill-like, “hanging” billiard aesthetic that the Autograph artisans seem to enjoy making. Either way, it’s a great looking pipe, with exactly the kind of flame grain you’d expect from premiere Italian freehand carvers.

The condition is very good. Some minor inner rim darkening and slight handling marks.
