Savinelli 130th Anniversary Sandblasted Bent Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

Like other extant historic makes, such as Peterson or Dunhill, Italy’s biggest pipe company knows that, in this day and age, such a company still going strong is something to be celebrated. This pipe was produced as part of a very limited series to mark 130 years since Savinelli’s founding, and I’d say it’s a pipe worthy of that occasion. For one thing, the design was not based on any standard Savinelli shape, instead being derived from unearthed sketches by Achille Savinelli way back when. Second, these pipes were carved from especially high quality, aged plateau briar, allowing for even more remarkable grain patterns than other high-grades in Savinelli’s catalog; third, the pipe was fitted with a sterling silver army mount, emblazoned with the Savinelli shield logo; and finally, the stems were cut from ebonite, as opposed to Lucite acrylic Savinelli, along with other makes, typically uses.

This sandblasted version features some exquisite ring grain, with a modest, dark brown stain. It is completely unsmoked, having come to us via our trade-in program from an Italian high-grade pipe collector. The pipe comes with a standard Savinelli box and sleeve.
