Sasieni Ruff Root Dark 4dot Sandblasted Sitter Estate Briar Pipe, French Estates [SOLD]

Description
Along with names like Barling, Charatan, and Dunhill Sasieni holds a special place in the history of English smoking pipes – one near to its very beginnings. So the story goes, Sasieni himself worked for Dunhill during its early days. But eventually he left Dunhill, having his own ideas about how pipes should be made, and founded Sasieni. This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever since.
This is an interesting sitter from Sasieni – or, I should say, stander. Thanks to the addition of a panel at the forward base of the bowl, the pipe is able to stand up straight on its own accord. I’m not sure I’ve seen that from any of the classic English and French pipe makes before, let alone Sasieni. Aside from this unorthodox addition, the pipe is a perfectly traditional bent billiard, with a nice, ring grain sandblast and a subdued reddish-brown stain.
The condition is good. There’s some rim darkening, and the stem is a little overbuffed, but this won’t affect the pipe’s smoking properties.
