Royal Danish 989 by Stanwell Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Royal Danish was a sub-brand of Denmark’s Stanwell company. Using the same shapes as the main Stanwell line, Royal Danish is now a great way for customers to get their hands on iconic Danish pipes that are no longer manufactured by Stanwell or by any of its sub-brands. What’s more, Stanwell sub-brands were of a much higher quality than the average second-line pipe, meaning they’re excellent value for money.
This 989 from Royal Danish is the make’s version of Stanwell’s shape 89, with the first ‘9’ indicating that it is a Royal Danish pipe. The shape itself is a rather iconic one in Stanwell’s catalog, having been designed by father of Danish style pipe-making Sixten Ivarsson. It is something of a Danish take on the traditional English-French pear shape, with a bowl that widens slightly as towards its convex rim along with an an oval shank and trapezoidal, ebonite stem. This Royal Danish version is partially sandblasted, with panels of smooth briar arranged around the bowl.
The condition is very good. The finish is a little faded, especially around the rim, but this is minor and superficial. The pipe remains an excellent pocket smoker, and will do for years to come.
