Rattray’s The Druid 16/100 Smooth Author Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm
Out of stock
Description
The House of Rattray was originally a tobacconist, opening in Perth, Scotland, in 1903, under the oversight of Charles Rattray. House of Rattray soon became a blending house (whose blends are still sold to this day under the Rattray’s name) and a purveyor of Rattray-brand pipes, made for the tobacconist by established English pipe makers. Over the years, the name changed hands, with contemporary Rattray’s pipes and tobaccos being produced under the umbrella of German’s Kopp company (formerly Kolhase & Kopp). Today, Rattray’s pipes are manufactured by various major European makers, such as Chacom and Butz-Choquin in France and Brebbia and L’anatra in Italy.
Named for a class of priests in pagan Celtic cultures, Rattray’s “The Druids” was a special, limited edition line of pipes featuring light brown stains, an amber-toned acrylic stem, and a silver collar engraved with a Stonehenge scene. Compared to other limited edition pipes, this one was extremely small in number, with just 100 produced in total. This one, numbered 16 in the series, is what I would consider to be a classic author shape, though it might also be thought of as a bent apple or a diplomat.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It also comes with its original box and sleeve. The pipe is chambered for 9mm filters as standard.
