Rattray’s Six Friends 6 Rusticated Bent Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm
Out of stock
Description
The House of Rattray was originally a tobacconist, opening in Perth, Scotland, in 1903, under the oversight of Charles Rattray. House of Rattray soon became a blending house (whose blends are still sold to this day under the Rattray’s name) and a purveyor of Rattray-brand pipes, made for the tobacconist by established English pipe makers. Over the years, the name changed hands, with contemporary Rattray’s pipes and tobaccos being produced under the umbrella of German’s Kopp company (formerly Kolhase & Kopp). Today, Rattray’s pipes are manufactured by various major European makers, such as Chacom and Butz-Choquin in France and Brebbia and L’anatra in Italy.
I’m fairly certain that the Six Friends line from Rattrays was discontinued some time ago, which is a shame. It was a great example of a modern design that perfectly emulated the traditions of early briar, with its classic shapes, reserved finishes, and amber-like acrylic mouthpieces. This one is a nice, simple, bent bulldog, lightly rusticated and dressed in a contrast stain that gives a slight weathered effect. A very charming pipe, I’d say.
This Rattrays is completely unsmoked with an original bowl coating. It also comes with its original box and sleeve. It is chambered for 9mm filters as standard but should accommodate a non-filter adapter if preferred.
