Rad Davis 2011 Sandblasted Zulu Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Robert ‘Rad’ Davis is an American pipe-maker from Foley, Alabama. A life-long pipe smoker, Davis was introduced to making pipes by Mark Tinsky, and has since become one of North America’s most respected carvers, with a devoted following. Along the way, Davis has been able to tutor other American pipe-makers who have gone on to become highly respected in their own right, such as Ryan Alden and Scottie Piersel. Sadly, Davis retired in 2015, meaning his pipes are now hard to come by – especially since those lucky enough to already own one are unlikely to part with them willingly.
An unsmoked Rad Davis – that’s not something you see every day. This one is magnificent, too. It’s a very traditionally inclined Zulu, but one that Davis has made his own through adding a dash of color and a ring of horn. The sandblasting is genuinely impeccable, with deep ring grain around the entirety of the bowl, and the shape’s curvature flows gently and smoothly, just as a Zulu’s should. As a cherry on top, the pipe is something of a featherweight, at a mere 34 grams. It is, therefore, perfect for clenching, which I find looks particularly good with a Zulu shape.
As mentioned, the pipe is completely unsmoked.
