Pipa Croci Artistica True XL Smooth Freehand Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates
Out of stock
Description
Pipa Croci are made by Italian artisans Paolo Croci and Gianni Croci. The two are based in Lombardy, where they have crafted handmade pipes since 1983—hence why all Croci pipes are stamped “dal 1983.”
This particular Croci is from Paolo & Gianni’s more freeform “Artistica” collection, a name which seems highly appropriate. Moving away from the typical styles of Italian handmades, it gestures toward an altogether different modern tradition: the Danish freehand. Perhaps it is an homage to those rare pipes from figures such as Preben Holm and Erik Nording, whose plateau was positioned at the base (as seen here), resulting in a highly distinct composition, even compared to other Danish fancies. Where the pipe does stick to its national heritage, however, is the choice of a light, blonde stain, which works wonders with the grain patterns underneath.
The condition is very good. Some wear to the inner rim.
