Peterson Dublin Edition X105 Smooth Lovat Estate Briar Pipe, Irish Estates

Description
Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.
This particular Peterson is a very traditional Lovat shape from the make’s Dublin Edition series a few years back. It shows some nice cross grain, accentuated by a walnut stain, as well as bird’s-eye patterns on the pipe’s underside. Strangely, this pipe is stamped as a shape X105, which is a larger billiard within Peterson’s catalog today. This one, on the other hand, seems to be a larger variant of the “53” shape.
The condition is good. There is some darkening and finish fading on the rim, as well as a small dark spot on the outer back rim (possibly a single, careless slip of the flame), but there’s nothing that won’t stop this pipe from being a fine looking, great smoker.
