Peterson Carroll of Carrollton 2023 Sandblasted Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.
First debuting in 2021, Peterson’s limited-edition Carroll of Carrollton series pays tribute to Irish-American signatory to the US Declaration of Independence, Charles Carroll (also Maryland’s first senator), and to the great bond between Ireland and America more generally. Limited to just 247 pieces, reflecting the number of years passed since the signing of the Declaration, the 2023 edition was an acorn shape highly evocative of the clay tavern pipes of old. This is the sandblasted variant, showing off some excellent ring grain.
The pipe is completely unsmoked, having come to us via our trade-in program. I do note that the pipe’s vulcanite stem is not quite flush with the pipe’s collared shank. It’s a cosmetic imperfection, but I’ve adjusted the price to reflect it nonetheless.
