Peterson Aran 999, Smooth Rhodesian Estate Briar Pipe, P-Lip [SOLD OUT]

Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

The ‘999’ is both an all-time classic shape and one that is distinctly Peterson’s own. A squat, bent Rhodesian with plenty to hold onto, this particular iteration also has some beautiful flame grain patterns, further emphasized by its brown-sugar stain. The pipe’s bowl is collared with a bright nickel band at the shank end, offsetting the jet-black of its vulcanite, p-lip stem.

The condition is excellent. There are one or two very minor nicks on the right side of the bowl, and the rim has some minor darkening around the inner lip, but this doesn’t detract from how fantastic a specimen of Peterson’s work the pipe is.
