Peterson Antique Collection 1908 Sandblasted Estate Briar Pipe, Irish Estates, 9mm

Description

Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

In 1995, Peterson released a special, limited-edition set of pipes whose designs dated back to the make’s earliest years. This first iteration of the “Antique Collection” was comprised of four shapes, each being traceable to one debuted by Peterson between 1903 and 1910. In 2005, Peterson released a second Antique Collection, this time featuring just two shapes; one based on a 1904 design, and the other on a 1908 design. This particular pipe is the latter, a diamond shank, army mount bent brandy, dressed in a fittingly craggy black sandblast. This one will also have been released for the European (read: German) market, as it is chambered for 9mm filters as standard.

The condition is great. Some minor, inner rim darkening. As stated, the pipe is chambered for 9mm filters as standard, but it should accommodate some variety of adapter for non-filtered use if preferred.
