Peterson 2019 Christmas 999 Rusticated Bent Rhodesian Estate Briar Pipe, Irish Estates [SOLD]

Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

Peterson’s 2019 Christmas pipe was one of my favorites in recent years. While Peterson is known for their silver and nickel mounts, this one featured a copper mount, along with a burnt umber stain and a cumberland-style stem. It was colorful, but not too colorful – just a dash of something extra to bring some of the make’s most classic shapes alive again. This one is an army mount version of the shape 999 Rhodesian, with a fairly light rustication dressed in a contrasting stain of dark browns and reds.

The condition is great. There’s a little rim darkening, but it isn’t noticeable without a very close inspection.
