Description
PapaBearPipes are made by North American artisan Tim Beaumont. Beaumont has been making pipes since 2018, cultivating a unique style that isn’t afraid to mix and match design elements and to create something completely out of the ordinary.
I know many a pipe maker who would do unspeakable things to pull off a sandblast like this. Heck, I know many a pipe maker who would do unspeakable things to pull off a shape like this one, too. There’s a wonderful, subtle, asymmetry to this egg by Tim Beamont that makes me hesitant to call it “Danish” in style. Instead, it’s far more contemporary, like something you’d find in the portfolio of Vladimir Grechukhin, for example. However you look at it, it’s a beautiful, compact little number, with great ring grain, a jazzy contrast stain, and a teardrop shank capped with a ferrule cut from leopardwood. Of particular note is the bowl’s slight backwards lean (another point of correspondence with Grechukhin), which ensures the chamber will stay vertical when the pipe is clenched—which, at just over one and a half ounces, it should do easily.
