Orlik Hurricane 4278 Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
Orlik was an English pipe manufacturer founded in 1899 by Louis Orlik. While originally the company’s mission was to produce low-cost pipes, the make would ultimately be known for the distinctly high quality of their products. Consequently, Orlik pipes are today a favorite among pipe smokers and collectors, especially those who prefer the hobby’s Great British classics.
I’m not entirely sure who came up with the ‘Hurricane’ first. From what I’ve read in Steve Laug’s Reborn Pipes studies, ‘Hurricane’ was more of a popular shape than an intellectual property in the 20th century. This one happens to be Orlik’s version, and it is one of the prettier renditions that I’ve seen. The chestnut stain is reserved, but nonetheless warm – which I suppose is a good thing, considering that these pipes were meant to be used on cold, windy days.
This Hurricane also happens to be the first I’ve ever seen that was completely unsmoked, which I imagine will prick the ears of many a collector.
